What is ChatGPT?
First things first, what is ChatGPT? Simply put, it’s an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, capable of understanding and generating human-like text. For web professionals, it’s a powerful ally, helping with everything from coding to content creation.
The instructions that we provide ChatGPT are known as prompts. Based on the prompt, the AI tool generates text. The paid version, ChatGPT Plus, has even more functionalities, including image generation, document processing and much more.
No doubt that it’s an incredibly powerful tool. Let’s discuss the ways we can use the free version for website copy and research.
Tip #1: Writing Website Copy
Imagine having a virtual assistant that crafts compelling website copy in seconds. That’s ChatGPT for you! It can generate creative and SEO-friendly content, be it product descriptions, taglines, or FAQs.
How to write content with ChatGPT?
Even if ChatGPT can write copy, the copy can often lack the human creativity and tone. Therefore, before asking ChatGPT to write content for a blog, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
Copy and paste one or two good blog posts as examples for ChatGPT to take reference from. This improves the tone and style in which the copy is written. For example, the prompt can look something like:
“Act as an expert Blog writer, read the following blog posts and use them as reference for writing a blog post titled : <write title here>, keep the tone <add tone, e.g. friendly> and use simple words <depends on your target audience>
<Paste blog posts separated by one line of spacing>”
Once ChatGPT writes the blog, make changes and fixes as you see fit. You can also ask it to rewrite if you don’t like the content, mentioning what changes you would like to have
Tip #2: Rewriting Existing Copy
You can copy your existing content and paste it to ChatGPT, instructing it to rewrite it in the way you want. For example, your content might be way too long with a bunch of complex words. You can ask ChatGPT to rewrite it as follows:
“Rewrite the following text making it shorter while retaining the overall meaning and important points. Replace complex words with simple words. Keep the tone <add tone>. Create 4 variations <optional>
<Paste existing content>”
Tip #3: Fixing Grammar Errors
We have often made grammatical mistakes with our copy, especially the minor ones, like a small spelling, or a punctuation. Or structuring the sentence in the wrong way. But now, we can fix that with ChatGPT. Simple paste all the text you want to correct, and ask ChatGPT to fix the mistakes and rewrite the text. You can also just ask it to specify the errors instead of fixing them completely. A prompt to do the same would look like:
“Read the following text and fix all the grammatical errors. Rewrite the entire text without the errors and make a list of the errors:
<Paste text>”
Pro Tip: With the ChatGPT Plus version, you can simply paste the link to your webpage and ask it to check for grammatical errors. So awesome, right?
Tip #4: Summarize Content and Restructure
You can now summarize large pieces of text and then restructure it in any way you want. For example: you might have a long piece of text and you want to summarize it in bullet points, you can simple write the following prompt:
“Read and summarize the following text in bullet points.
<Paste text>”
You can also add a tone, or mention only specific topics that you want the content to be about.
Tip #5: Write SEO Meta Description
ChatGPT might not be able to write SEO content, since SEO is a very elaborate process, but it can definitely help you out with Meta Descriptions. Simply copy and paste the Title of the post/page/product, add target keywords and if possible also paste the content for better output, then ask for a meta description.
“Read this content titled <add title here> and create a SEO meta description. Target keywords are <add target keywords> and here is the content:
<add content>”
